Replacing the castle burned to the ground in Chaumont was rebuilt from essentially 1469 to 1566. The castle dominates the peaceful course of the Loire. The harmonious and refined construction constitutes a significant link of transition between the medieval fortress and the palace rebirth. Benjamin Franklin was at some point a guest at the Castle.
