Château de Chenonceau
May 8, Tuesday -
Château de Chenonceau, on the River Cher, lies near the small village of Chenonceaux, in the département of the Loire Valley. It was built on the site of an old mill sometime before its first mention in writing in the 11th century. The current manor was designed during the French Renaissance. Set along the banks of the river, exquisite gardens were laid out in four triangles, and buttressed from flooding by stone terraces.
