2009 GNC side trip
January 17, Saturday - Steve Barnhart, Adam White, & I completed a day's competition at FDR, Pine Mountain, GA. We high tailed it south to see what we could see. We made it to Andersonville, site of the most horrifying PW camp of the American Civil War. The Visitor Center, Video, & Museum, prepared us for a somber and introspective stroll upon the grounds. Afterwords, we drove through Plains to visit President Jimmy Carter. He may have been busy; Found his town, school, and childhood farm, nonetheless. Sunday, January 18, on the way home, stopping just east of Chattanooga, Steve and I found a reverently preserved but little known Confederate cemetery.
